Dan's Solutions are Providing Results
State Senator Dan Kotowski has delivered upon his promises and continues to go above and beyond as a representative of the 33rd District. In his first year Dan was the chief sponsor of nine bills that are now law in the State of Illinois as well as the cosponsor of another 51 bills that are now law.
Protecting your Pocketbook
Dan fought to cap property tax assessments at 7% and he helped lead the fight to do so. The legislation will save homeowners in the district from an undue burden to skyrocketing property rates. Dan has also led the fight to protect taxpayers by making state government more accountable with real-time online posting of state awarded contracts.
Providing Quality, Affordable Healthcare
He has successfully led the fight as the chief sponsor of legislation that requires insurance companies to cover mammograms and ultrasounds for women at risk of breast cancer. Dan's first bill that he chief sponsored helped provide funds for veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.
He has also pushed for legislation that created the Illinois Long-Term Care Partnership Program which allows seniors to insure against future medical costs, thus protecting senior’s retirement funds.
Dan campaigned on the issue of stem cell research to help find cures for some of the most pressing diseases of our time. He helped pass legislation that would create a statewide network of cord blood stem cell banks as well as legislation that permits research with human stem cells.
Improving Our Education System
Dan was influential helping pass a bipartisan budget that included $600 million for funding public education in the state.
Dan was the chief sponsor of a bill that provides scholarships for children of veterans from Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He also worked on legislation that would properly address autism through special education in our schools.
Keeping our Community Safe
Dan has worked tirelessly as an advocate on community safety issues. He carried this work ethic into his service as state Senator. He was the chief sponsor of legislation that protects children from on-line predators.
He has also sponsored legislation that now keeps guns away from people who are considered an immediate danger to themselves or the community. Additionally, Dan helped pass a bill that requires sex offenders to provide law enforcement agencies with all e-mail addresses, and other online identities that they own. He helped work on legislation that places stiffer penalties people using fake ID's to purchases ingredients to methamphetamines as well as discharging a firearm from a vehicle to a class 3 felony.
Restoring Public Integrity
Dan was the chief sponsor of a bill that now requires the state government to post governmental contracts as well as those who get them into a real-time online database.
He also helped pass legislation that requires the Treasurer to post information on the official website regarding the investment of public funds. These two bills help ensure that the public knows what is happening with taxpayers' dollars.
Additionally, Dan will be giving his pay raise to charity and refused to accept the per diem that was available to him for the overtime and special session. He has instructed the Secretary of the Senate to return his per diem to the state's general revenue fund.
